All Life on Earth Depends on PLANTZ…well, Plants
From Biology 101, we all know that plants use carbon dioxide (what we breath out) and water with a sunlight catalyst to make oxygen and sugar (things we breath and eat). Remember…right?
C6O2 + 6H2O > sunlight > C6H12O6 + 6O2
Well, besides looking great, plants in interior environments can –
- Reduce stress
- Filter VOC’s (pollutants) out of the air
- Increase worker productivity
- Make people happy
The creative use of ornamental plants to positively impact human environments is getting more widespread. San Diego interiorscaper and green roof specialist Jim Mumford was invited to address San Diego high school students at a recent TEDxYouth conference. His presentation “Architects of the Future” is filled with images of living architecture and demonstrates how plants on walls, roofs, patios at work and at home will bring nature into our lives enhancing every aspect of human interaction within buildings and cities.
It’s a really neat presentation, and if you have 10 minutes please check it out.
