Steve Stanford Earns Florida Certified Horticulture Professional

Aug 23, 2022

PLANTZ president, Steve Stanford, has earned certification with the Florida Nursery, Growers, and Landscape Association (FNGLA) as a Florida Certified Horticulture Professional.  The FNGLA Certified Horticulture Professional (FCHP) program is the industry’s only standard for measuring horticulture knowledge on everything from plant and pest identification to landscape management. The certification is designed for those working in the horticulture industry or studying to enter the field.  Candidates must pass a comprehensive four-part online written exam to demonstrate knowledge about plant identification, disease and insect control, plant biology, and landscape management.

“I’m excited to achieve the certification,” said Steve.  “I’ve been a long, long-time member of the organization and I’m happy to support the industry in this way.  It’s another example of how the FNGLA is delivering on its mission to promote Florida agriculture and a higher level of professionalism in its membership.”

As the nation’s largest state nursery and landscape association, FNGLA represents Florida’s environmental horticulture industry which generated $25.4 billion in total output sales in 2018 and directly employed 242,000 people. Through FNGLA’s efforts, the entirety of Florida’s nursery and landscape industry benefits.

Steve is a 1986 graduate of the University of Florida’s Environmental Horticulture program and has led PLANTZ since 2004.  PLANTZ is a Tampa-based interior and exterior landscape company serving customers throughout the Tampa, Orlando, St Petersburg, Clearwater, and Sarasota markets.  It also hosts a web storefront – www.plantz.com – marketing, selling, and shipping high-quality foliage plants nationwide to its loyal customers.
